Some know her as Ruth, some know her as RBG, and some know her as "The Notorious RBG."
This painting celebrates a true pioneer for for civil rights and gender equality, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Ginsburg was the second woman in history to ever serve on the Supreme Court Justice of the United States (from 1993-2020) who fought against workplace and education discrimination.
Here are some fun and interesting facts you may not have known about this soft spoken woman who clearly carried a big stick!
1. Before Ruth Bader Ginsburg, state funded schools did NOT have to accept women.
2. Women could not sign a mortgage or have a bank account without a male co-signer.
3. She helped women make strides toward equal pay.
4. She pushed to protect pregnant women in the workplace.
5. Her presence on the court preserved a woman's right to choose.
6. She fought for women to stand on juries hence the quote, "Women belong in all places where decisions are being made."
7. She was a key vote in granting same sex marriages.
8. She famously cofounded the Women's Rights Project at the ACLU as a lawyer.
For each of these reasons above she has been a role model to women (like me) as a confident, hard working female leader.
